Keep it a game

Free, and still 18+

A ward here sounds, looks and times itself the way a real gambling machine does, because that is what it was built from. That is why Violet Keep is for adults at or over the legal gambling age, and why nothing on it is aimed at anyone under 18. You are asked twice: on the strip across the top, and again as a box you tick when the account is made.

Lines this keep does not cross

• No real-money gambling, offered or promoted.
• No prize worth anything beyond these walls.
• No coin sales, under any name.
• No links out to gambling companies or their affiliates.
• No countdowns and no streaks built to make leaving feel costly.

Something we would rather say out loud

Nobody loses anything here, so a free machine can afford to feel generous, and the purse refills itself when it empties. A real-money game does neither. However kindly a ward treats you, it tells you nothing about how you would fare with your own money at stake.

Worth catching early

• You meant to leave an hour ago.
• Stopping leaves you short-tempered.
• You come here to get out from under something.
• Sleep, work or the people around you are losing time to it.
• You have started looking for the version of this with money in it.

Staying on top of it

• Decide how long you are staying before the first spin, not during.
• Leave the auto button alone.
• Walk out through the gate now and then.
